The Orchestra

Bath Philharmonia is one of the most exciting professional orchestras to have emerged in the UK over the last 20 years, collaborating with many of the world’s greatest musicians including, Renee Fleming, Steven Isserlis, Sir Willard White, Stephen Hough, Elin Manahan Thomas, Peter Donohoe and Nicola Benedetti.  Each year, Bath Philharmonia performs to audiences of over 5000 people and reaches many more through broadcasts and recordings. Bath Philharmonia’s vision is to make high quality orchestral music accessible to their community.

Bath Philharmonia has performed at festivals and venues throughout the UK including Bath Mozartfest, Fishguard International Festival, Frome Festival, Beaminster Festival, Colston Hall and the Hall for Cornwall. 

The orchestra has a developing discography of world premiere recordings by British composers including, George Lloyd, Judith Bailey, Paul Carr and Steven Faux, with music by Paul Carr being Disc of the Month on Classic FM in 2011. 

Learning is at Bath Philharmonia’s heart; Bath Philharmonia’s Creative Learning Team create and perform original music with extraordinary people. Working in local schools and with Young Carer organisations, their projects help young people develop their musical skills whilst impacting upon personal and social outcomes. Through music making, Bath Philharmonia opens up new opportunities for a whole new generation of concert-goers.

Bath Philharmonia enhances the artistic life of communities in Bath & the South West through live orchestral music by:

* Performing concerts of outstanding artistic quality with soloists from a national and international platform.

* Broadening audiences by promoting the live orchestral experience to all members of our community.

* Enabling open access participation in live-music making through Bath Phil Creative Learning performances and workshops.

* Furthering learning and professional development by working in collaboration with other music education providers.

* Programming a rich and diverse repertoire in innovative contexts.
