Sergei Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3

Bath Philharmonia embarks on an epic musical expedition through mountain ranges and across vast seas in a concert for the whole family. Mussorgsky provides a bare-knuckle musical ride over precipitous peaks through vast thunderstorms and torrential rain. Anna Clyne plunges us into mountainous seas, ferocious squalls and howling gales. She is becoming one of Britain’s most sought after and recognised composers of her generation and her work is both bold but very approachable.
At the age of 15, Lauren Zhang won BBC Young Musician of the Year 2018 with virtuosic ability and musical understanding way beyond her years. For a pianist, performing Rachmaninov’s 3rd Concerto is akin to climbing Mount Everest without any oxygen. To be able to scale such heights when you are only 17 makes this performance even more extraordinary! Expect youthful prodigious technical ability but also musical insight for and from a new generation.
King Edward’s School, Bath proudly sponsors BBC Young Musician of the Year 2018, Lauren Zhang performing with Bath Philharmonia.
